Easy-to-use, good software to make music with?

Hi everyone,

When I say easy-to-use I really mean it. I am a total zero with computers and I do not want Live or Reason or anything like that. The rationale is that I find them way too hard to work with. What I want is something simple. It should be fine with me as long as you can make good music with it.

In addition to being easy to work with, the software should also have everything you need to make music. It is all fine and good if you can add your own sounds etc but the software should have sounds, samples, instruments etc already. I want something that you can just start off making a tune with in no time at all and without much effort. I do not want to make an effort customizing the program before I start making music.

Suggestions? My thanks in advance to the good people who would like to help me with this.

I was previously working with analogue synthesizers and tape. Now I need something for the computer, but what I want is not something that simulates analogue. I just want something that is super easy to start off with in no time. New technology will affect the end result anyway and it is OK with me that it will sound completely different.
 
Go to cnet.com and look in the download area and see what you can find. But if you download a program, make sure you go custom install, and check boxes off so they won't load 3rd party software.

If you don't want to make any effort to customize, personalize, expand or go beyond what comes with software, then your result will pretty much sound like you just loaded some software and played with it. You gotta make your OWN music, bud. Your OWN sound. Be unique. And that takes work.

That said, I know a guy who bought Sony ACID Music Studio and within minutes, he was making d*mn good music.

Ok thanks everybody.

Audacity seems to be a recording software. It is not including instruments that you can play with, right?

I want simulated keyboards and other instruments that you can play from your computer's QWERTY keyboard, for example.

What is FL Studio like?
 
There is a free version of Sony ACID, called ACID Xpress http://www.acidplanet.com/downloads/xpress/ I think you can use that to create music. If not, then ACID Music Studio is inexpensive and would be a good option for you.

FL Studio 11 Fruity Edition is the basic one and apparently doesn't have as many features as the other versions do, but some reviews are saying it's quite good.

There's also Avid Sibelius First which is about the same cost as FL Studio Fruity, I think that may only let you write music though.

You can probably download a free trial of all three of them from the manufacturer's website, so I'd do that and see which one you like best before you purchase. I've not tried any of them however because composing music isn't really my forte. ;)
 
FL studio is a great DAW to start with. It costs money, but you can start off with a demo. The full version also comes with a lot of great vsts such as synths, effects, etc. The one I'm learning to use now is Ableton. It's what most modern producers are using now. I'ts a little harder to learn than FL, however, I personally like the work flow better. With ableton, you might need some external vsts. Massive, nexus, and fabfilter twin 2 are my favorite synths. If you want to get effects, fabfilter has a great compressor, limiter, and others. I would recomend getting these external vsts with FL too, once you learn how to use it.
