Easy Video Card Question

Well easy for you guys but I read and re-read this forum and I just need a starting point.

Here is what I have and I would like to upgrade it .
I have a GeForce nForce405 . Thats what I read on my Display Properties window.

I am guessing this is a video card that is built into my motherboard but I am not sure . Can someone tell me if it is built in to the motherboard ?

I have been reading Video Card 101 . http://www.computerforum.com/26602-video-card-101-a.html
I have ruled out Category C - "I'm building a gaming box ...and Category D - "I want to play all the latest games...

My question is where does my existing card stand ?

Less than Category A - I just want a basic video card...

Equal to Category A ?

Above Category A but less than Category B - "I want a video card that will let me play the occasional video game... ?

Equal to Category B ?

Greater than Category B ?

If I know where I stand then the Video Card 101 makes sense to me .

Assuming I get the answer what I have is garbage compared to Category A , Will I need to order anything else if I purchase a video card from either Category A or Category B will I need better cooling or a PSU ?

How do I find out if I have AGP or PCI-Express ? I do not wish to spend the money rebuilding if I have AGP .

I checked google and found you apparently have an onboard 6100 with that chipset. I don't know about these categories, but that's about the lowest of the low.

I don't understand why you think you'd need better cooling with a new GPU, but you will more than likely need a new PSU.

I'm quite sure that chipset is a PCI-Express board. Best to pop it open to double check (and to be sure you have the port :P) Google the two cards, I'm sure you'll find plenty of photos of either for reference. That or many times the board actually has "AGP" or PCI-E written around the slot ;)

OK I Found this...

AMD is not the only company playing the chipset renaming game. NVIDIA is renaming its existing MCP61P GeForce 6100 and nForce 405 chipset to compete with AMD’s upcoming RS690 in the marketing game.

AMD’s RS690 hit a snag and has yet to launch in mass quantities unfortunately. Nevertheless, NVIDIA has given the existing MCP61P GeForce 6100 and nForce 405 chipsets a new GeForce 7-series and nForce 600-series name. Under the new naming scheme, the single-chip MCP61P GeForce 6100 and nForce 405 is reborn as the GeForce 7050 and nForce 630a.

New name aside, the GeForce 7050 and nForce 630a are identical to the GeForce 6100 and nForce 405. While it may appear the GeForce 7050 does not deserve a GeForce 7-series designation, it is in fact a GeForce 7-series derived graphics core as previously reported.

Which lead me to this...

So if I did not screw up...Does this help ?
