anyone know how ebay is with monitors because i saw a few monitors that were pretty cheap, new and brand name too. if anyone's ever bought a monitor or has any suggestions about this ebay situation please chime in....thanx

I've never been a big fan of buying monitors online, as I've heard horror stories of mishandling by the parcel services whom deliever the product, which translates into a broken monitor on arrival at your doorstep.

Well its generally pretty safe. eBay has become pretty well developed.

The only thing that could really go wrong with buying a monitor off eBay is having a dead pixel in the monitor.

So check for monitors that mention no dead pixels, or maybe still have a warranty.

Also be careful with shipping, monitors are generally fragile.

I bought my Dell 20.1'' widescreen LCD monitor off of ebay for $100 less including shipping then if i ordered from dell and it was brand new in the box to and there were no dead pixels.

It doesnt have anything to do with eBay, it has to do with the person selling it. Since some sellers will very carefully package them, and there wont be a problem, while others may just throw it in a box and it will be cracked when you get it. I would only buy from reputable sellers on ebay.

Are you also referring to newegg? Newegg ships so many monitors and i have yet to see one come all cracked and damaged. On ocassion theres one that comes DOA, but they replace it free of charge. Me and ryan have also bought many monitors from there, and they've all worked great. No dead pixels either.

Bought my monitor brand new through the manufactor, and guess how it arrived. In the normal box as though it was taken off a store shelf. No extra protective packing at all. Good thing FedEx took good care of it.

I've bought 2 monitors on e-bay so far, and they have both turned out great, but I would make sure i check the persons feedback score before I go buying a monitor.:D

OMEGA has a great point, the quality of ebay's products has to do with the seller, just make sure you check the seller's raiting and you should be fine. I have bought tons of things from ebay (several iPods, golf clubs, golf shoes, paintball guns, etc.) and I have always been completely satisfied. Ebay's a great place to buy things for a good deal cheaper than other computer hardware retailers are selling them. Regardless, if I was you, I would really consider checking out the deals tigerdirect.com and newegg.com have. They usually have pretty good rebates and other discounts on their products. Good luck.
