Electrocuted by my computer

why is that all computers i use have electricty on its case? is this a powersupply problem? when you turn it off but not unplugged.

Maybe there's a lot of static electricity in your house. That's all I can think of, as this happens on more than 1 computer.

its everywhere, almost all pc even in school, try it. thats why i ground my hardware. to discharge all those electricity

Try it? You DO KNOW that computers should NOT shock anyone just by touching the case.

My computer (aluminium case) has never shocked me. I even fiddle with the insides with it on and running. I just make sure to touch the case every now and then.

That's a grounding problem. Your PSU is not grounded properly. Usually that indicates a faulty PSU. Mind you, I have a client that has an employee that is the only one in the office that gets shocked by own particular computer. It will actually shut the computer down. Very wierd. It was an electrifying experience to watch, but I must admit that at first it came as a real shock.

Ooooh, that was bad, lol, very bad. On topic as others have said you have serious problems if you get shocked everytime from the case, i had a video selector i used for a project once, really old and it wasnt grounding properly, the casing was live the whole time, hurt a bit.... lol

haha ive done that before too, i never really had a problem with the computer parts... but it feels like a minor amount of electricity is running through... maybe about half the shock of a 9V battery on your tongue, but on your hand...

ive also electrocuted myself inside a psu... unplugging it first probably would've done the trick lol but it wasn't supposed to have electricity running through the heatsink! haha..

actually PSU's carry electricity inside them even when not running/plugged in... they have capacitors and transformers that have electricity with very high amp ratings...

and a word of caution, people have died from playing with PSU's, i wouldn't recommend it to anyone except specially trained people...

This seems to be happening with ANY computer he touches. If it was just the one, then yeah, PSU problem, but it's FAR too much of a coincidence for EACH computer to have a PSU problem, and to only shock him. (If it shocked other people, they'd get thrown away/repaired).

i used to have that problem then realised that it was actualy the materials of my clothes rubbing against me as i moved lmao...

there is a few people in our family got the same problem, even on my stereo amplifier, if i can find a courner on the side that has been scratched to bare metal and touch it i get souch a electric static shock...

you should only get an electric shock when touchin the bare metal?

honest its true!

i get it too... but only when i'm standing on carpet... that can be expected from the potential static electricity building up...

Mabe he just have a very conductive personality. lmao, I'm sorry that was bad, lol.

If it is clothing doing this, wouldn't that mean the computer is properly ground, since static electricity builds up and is released through the ground when he touches the computers. hmm:rolleyes:
