Emachine NOT RESPONDING and is slow

I have been having this problem for some time now. When I try to load a page or just browse the computer is extremely slow and displays a NOT RESPONDING. I have downloading AVG and ran that. It did detect some virus' a couple months ago. I know theres tech support but they charge an arm and a leg. If someone would help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Also if it would be easier to help via AIM my AIM is whoisurbiatch (excuse the name, a friend made it for me and it jsut stuck). Thanks in advance.
 
I hit remove a while ago and it ran a little faster but still not that much better. I also was told the reason it was doing this is because I didnt have enough memory so I went out and bought more. That did absolutely nothing.
 
couldnt his registry just be full, maybe he just needs to reformat. i generally do this periodically and see a big improvement everytime
