Emachines problem

I have an Emachines that has some issues. It beeps from the internal speaker when booting up (trouble code, I guess). Also, it can't totally boot because of this error: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. It says that it is missing or corrupt. It says to reload the file. Does anyone know how to fix this? Do I just reload the XP disc? I know that it might just be a crappy computer, but it is here and I would like to see if I can fix it.

Edit: Sorry, I should also mention that it failed about two years ago, and we took it to Best Buy (we purchased it from them and got the warranty, but I think Best Buy sucks). They replaced the mother board and gave it back to us. It beeped like a trouble code was being displayed, but worked (slowly). Because the warranty was almost up, we got it back after the warranty was up. We took it back, but they wouldn't fix it without payment now. So, I hadn't used it for about a half a year, and now this error pops up. Something happened while it was sitting, obviously. Possibly the battery?

try running xp setup and do a repair install of windows xp. That might fix you up, it looks like that file got corrupted some how. So in theory if you repair windows it should work just fine.

Ok, thanks. That's what I was thinking. I think what caused this is spyware and adware, as it hasn't ever had a scan or programs to protect it from those two things.

I'd say you're right.
You need to run spybot and Ad Aware SE, I think you'll find something has made a registry change.
Don't knock those el-cheapo e-machines, I've had one going for over 7 years about 16 hours a day, and it just keeps on ticking.
