eMachines vs Dell Dimension comparision

Hello, I was wondering if I could get a comparison of two desktops, Emachines T3256 and a Dell Dimension 4400.

Things like the memory, performance, processor, and the like.

eMachines are crap.

If you have to choose the two, go with the Dell.

If possible, build your own.

If you must get one of them get the Dell as eMachines are complete rubbish. They're both really outdated though, if you can the best option is almost always self-building.

Well I have that emachines and it is over clocked, my friend has that dell, and he's been having problems with it, and his CMOS battery keeps dieing, he replaced it twice, and has a thing where the computer clock keeps switch and just generally has a buncha problems.

I wanted to know that if I sold him my emachines it would be an upgrade for him and not a downgrade. I've been trying to find a site where they'll let me compare them face to face but haven't found one yet. From what I read those they have similar processors but my emachines has double the harddrive and ram. Both have 2.2ghz but the dell has a Pentium 4 while my emachines has AMD.

I wanted to get that sweet looking Toshiba X-305 laptop at best buy, the red one with the flames and the subwoofer, it seems they're getting rid of the model though.... But just today my mom's Mac G4's Apple Studio Monitor died, it was really expensive when we got it, $1500, and a new one is $1000.

Also to the guy who said emachines are crap, this computer has been running for a long time and the only problem I have with it is the graphics card which won't let me play Atlantica Online any more. And I had an 0x0000007E registry error but I think I got it fixed.

Um, can someone answer my question? Why is the dell better, when the emachines seems to have better specs and is in better condition? I explained some more in the post above me, sorry for the bump.

Trust us, eMachine is a bad brand... I know from personal experience.

Anyway, the eMachine has better specs, but the Dell has better quality, sooo...

Well they have dial up so either way I don't think it would affect their internet performance, and this desktop doesn't have problems, unlike theirs. So much for better quality?

Okay, so if I wanted to sell my emachines, how much could I sell it for?

Also since I'm posting I have another question, what do you think of the Toshiba Qosmio X305 laptop? I love the look, and that it has a sound woofer (so many laptops are too quiet to use for watching movies). I am majoring in Drafting and Design, so after doing some research this laptop seems like a good-looking choice for Gaming and heavy programs like AutoCAD and the like.

Not going to touch upon the other Posts before this, but FWIW, I just sold a (commonly-referred-to-as-outdated) eMachines T2862 Mobo and Celeron D 330 CPU bundle on ebay for circa-$100 total. No RAM, no Drives, no case, no cables...no nada. Just a basic no-frills MoBo and a single core CPU; $100 cash-money...woot.

Point-in-case, even "outdated" stuff has extreme-usefulness in certain applications. My advice, if you're able to, part out the system and sell the parts individually.

Ok, so I'll touch on one previous Post... In regards to why is X Brand better than Y Brand, or in this case, Dell vs. eMachines... in terms of build-quality, it's all pretty much basically the same. Every company has an assembly line, every company has the same general (read: basic) parts, and every company has some sort of QA testing/assurances. Generally, the 'better' part of the equation (for Big Brand companies at least) comes in the form of support options. Love them or hate them, Dell has *excellent* support. Granted, you need to get past the wave of 1st-round overseas yuppies, but once you get someone in the US, it's pretty much game-over for all the random BS. If you have a problem... They. Will. Fix. It.

Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who had about 10 Big-Brand 800-support numbers programmed into his cell phone at one point.

If you sell all the parts together you're not going to get much... probably like $50... if you separate the parts and sell on ebay you might get more.

The Toshiba seems pretty good, I personally don't like what it looks like as I prefer what Alienware laptops look like. It does appear, though, that the laptop in question is fairly overpriced... you might want to look into a MacBook Pro as it's better imho.

I would build my own desktop, but just a quick look at the parts I want to build it with would easily put me over 3 grand(although I really want to). Plus I am in need of a laptop than a desktop currently.

I was able to find the x-305 for a little over $1000 on ebay, maybe the price will go even lower soon.

You're right selling the parts would probably bring in more money.

Thanks for all your help, maybe if I get the money to build my own computer I'll be back.

Assuming you mean USD, something is terribly wrong with that figure... you should be able to build an awesome rig for one grand, so I'm not sure where the three grand is coming from... where are you getting your prices from? If you're in the US or Canada, Newegg is best. :)

USD.
Um, is that counting the cost of Monitor, speakers, keyboard/mouse, software(such as OS), and shipping/handling on everything? I didn't sit down with the numbers, I just threw a rough estimate of part prices, added ship/hand to everything and rounded the figure up.

When I'm talking about building a computer I'm thinking something like *quick google search* this:

http://www.xoxide.com/xoxide-alien-x-case.html

With the best processor I can buy(reasonably of course), windows XP, Kick-@ air-cooling, and high-performance gaming parts inside with colored lights, looking something sweet like this.

When I decide to build my own rig, I'd go all the way. If I could do all that for a grand I might be tempted to instead of getting that laptop, maybe...
I just hope I wouldn't have to solder anything.

Well, no... unless you do some crazy modding you wont have to solder anything.

For $1000 you could probably build a nice i7 rig...

Hmmm... Interesting.

We're getting off topic now so I'll stop. Thanks for answering my questions, I'd PM you but I can't. Shoot me an IM if you have it, PaulPool89.

Yeah, you need to have 100 posts to use the PM feature. It's to avoid spammers from PMing people. :)

What IM client would that be? AIM? Skype?

that cant be your answer, it has better specs witch means better quality parts, the only thing emachines can be responsible for is how they put them together, and what case they use, i would think the emachines is better if it has twice the ram and harddrive, and im pretty sure amd proccessors used to be faster then intels when they launched the pentiams and if its a 2.2 clocked pentiam then it sucks balls

the emachines is better, and your mom got ripped on that monitor cant a mac use a regular monitor?? you couldve got like a i7 setup without graphics card for 1000
