I've heard people say bad things about both eMachines and Dell. I was just curious what make you like better. I have an eMachine now, but I used Dell at first.

My first "real" computer was an emachines. 333k, AMD K6-2 333MHz. The thing back then was junk... Seriously, I ended up replacing the hard drive, CD-ROM, modem, floppy, power supply(well, the fan) and the CPU fan! You get what you pay for! I've not worked with any recently, but even the newer ones I've worked with have been junk.

I have worked with some Dell computers recently, and they have been junk. 5/10 of the new ones I worked on had some problem. Could be a lose screw, could be a failed hard drive that prevented the machine from even POSTing. Besides that, the cases were very cheap, and the I/O ports had horrible flex to them.

I just end up upgrading stuff like IDE cables. Now why did I post this in operating systems?

Dell is so good, there customer service is good providing you communicate via email.

I believe the question is about comps not customer service. :)

Anyway, i think they both suck. But eMachines a little bit less...

Im with Dell too.
im using a DELL OPTIPLEX 210L, 1GB RAM,150GB HD,DVD RW DUAL layer as my dekstop PC.
i was longing for the dell dimension 9200, now thats a work PC

Are we talking about laptops or desktops? I love Dell desktops, they are built tough and are really cheap (in price of course, lol).

But why is this in the OS section?

voted for emachines.. never used one/had one, but they have to be better than dell...

i would go for emachines....my first real computer was an emachine and it was the first computer i upgraded in my whole entire life..soooooooo my votes on emachines, and plus i still have it as my windows xp back-up computer (just incase the one i usually use breaks) and i still play on it from time to time.

I'm using an eMachines that I've upgraded with more RAM, another HD, more fans, a bigger PSU, and case holes for more air. Daily heavy use including folding for three solid years and never a hiccup. But also there's a ten year old Dell Optiplex GXa with a Pentium II, Win98, 300MHz and 64MB of RAM in the house that simply will not die!
