email speeds

I have a question about the speed at which I receive emails. Long story made short, I work in a business where orders are send to out to multiple vendors simultaneously. These orders are first come first serve. So, whoever has the fast email reception gets the order typically. I'm getting killed by this.

I used to use a POP roadrunner account via time warner cable. With that system I could set the send and receive to trigger on a 1 minute frequency. That was a failure, I was never able to secure an order. Then I moved to a gmail account and I was able to secure the occasional order for about a 6 month period. The gmail account was never ideal but I still got maybe 1 out of 10 orders. However, I'm back down to a 0 capture rate with the gmail account. I have a droid 2 phone. When orders are sent out, I get them on the phone first via gmail. I get the order on the phone anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds before the pc receives it.

So, my question for you guys is what should I do? I'm not sure what my technological disadvantage is but I clearly have one. My isp, time warner offers 3 tiers of internet speed. I have the middle one. I have no idea if that would make a difference. Obviously that makes no difference on my VZW phone. I thought about getting a new email service. Or maybe at least going with an email addy that's alphabetically advantageous, like [email protected]. Again, I have no idea if that would make any difference. The whole thing is pretty frustrating. The difference in success and failure is just a matter of shaving seconds off of the reception time. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I can't promise it will work, because I have no idea how their mailing list is setup, but assuming that an alphabetically advantageous email will put you at the top of the list (and I think it might), that would definitely do more to help you than anything else.

The only other thing I could think of would be to get an email set up on the same host as their's.
