emulator for wimdows xp 32 bit in windows 7

Hello,
I wish to buy a computer with 8 GB of Ram (i7 2600k cpu). As I understand only operating system with 64bit can utilize more than 4 GB of Ram. Thus I am thinking of installing a windows 7 64 bit or windows xp pro 64bit. Most of my programs work on windows xp 32bit and windows 7 32bit.
Is the emulator for windows xp 32 bit in windows 7 64 bit or in windows xp pro 64bit works as good as windows xp 32bit? (from a speed and errors point of view)?

32-bit software can run on 64-bit operating systems. A lot of software does actually work on Windows 7 without a problem. Don't worry about the virtual machine of XP.
