emulator question

first off if this is against forum rules please delete this.

i have a program called pcsx2 to play my PS2 games (mainly becouse my mom made me throw away my old one:( ). but the problem is its that it runs very slow its like playing the whole game in slow-mo. is it becouse my system can't handle it?

it might be a required program not installed like directX or Java... Try making sure you have both up to date.
 
pcsx2 is still an unfinished emulator, if you google for the forums from where it was created you will see the on going struggle to get them wroking well. The latest release is allowing the play of some games but not all. Most common problem has been the extremely low FPS and some games crashing like crazy when video sequences run.

Its still very much experimental but it is looking promising, dont expect all your games to work, to be honest very few will. Its not your system thats the issue its that the software isnt ready for it yet


Note to mods - i'm talking about personally owned games here not pirated or downloaded games :)

Can I 'Play' Games?

If by 'playing' a game, you mean: at full speed with sound, perfect graphics, etc, then NO. Come back next year.

Since this release (PCSX2 0.9.1) compatibility has increased greatly. Many games will now go 'in-game' or atleast to some form of menu. Whilst games may get 'in-game', they will not run at 'playable' speeds, due to the complex nature of PS2 emulation, and the lack of modern hardware that is powerfull enough to emulate such a console.

I'm pretty sure they have it... Just so you know, to play an NES, some emulators require somewhere around 300MHz! Average though is around a P166MHz. The original playstation required a processor around 400MHz. Now the PS2 is much more powerful and the GPU is many times more powerful. Oh, and don't forget about other things to emulate, like sound!

On top of this, emulation is typcially far from perfect. So, even if it did run at a resonable speed, I suspect few games would work well.
