End Certain Processes?

DEMO

I noticed almost 2GB of my memory is constantly being used by laptop, is there a way to know which ones I should end?

I would go into start>run>msconfig and see what programs are running and even look at what is set up to start at boot. That is way to much memory use.

I have start up completely cleaned and good to go, but I am not sure which services should be running and which ones should not in msconfig...any help there? I have had a few people say that Windows 7 will keep your RAM usage up in order to quickly access programs..

It won't keep it up that high, go through your application in your start button and see what software is running that should not be.

In the services tab, sort them by manufacturer and disable all of the non-mircosoft ones. Go to the boot tab, advanced, and set the NUMPROC option to the highest number on the list. That changes the amount of cores windows uses to boot with (= faster boot times)

If its windows 7, then its just using as much ram as it can. I have a brand new computer with 8 gigs of DDR3, It's using 1.5gb on nothing lol, so don't worry about it.

It's only a problem if you notice loss of performance

Thanks a lot for the info, however I probably shouldnt end a lot of these non microsoft services? Some of them are like Alienware related and sound blaster, etc

I need a few more solid replies on what to do. so far its half and half, some say windows caches to memory in order to load things faster and when it needed to be freed up it will dump things, others say to go to services and delete all non-microsoft apps (but this seems like it would stop important processes)...what should I do?

True. I think having an idle memory usage around 2GB out of 4GB total is pretty normal in Windows, at least that's what my Vista installation does. Unless you're constantly actually running out of memory I wouldn't worry about it.
