End of 939 CPU's

It looks as though the 939 socket processors will no longer advance to higher clock speeds. Will stop with x2 4800+ and fx-57. The new m2 chips will start at x2 5000+ and fx 60. That sucks, I just bought a new ASUS
A8N32 SLI motherboard. Should I cancel the order and wait for the new CPU's to arrive??? All the new stuff will be way overpriced though, and I could still build a kick *** computer with a x2 4800 or fx 57 what do you think???

My guess is that M2 will play a similar role that 754 did. The introduction of new technology, and just a bridge untill something replaces it for a longer time. My guess is that something like M3 will come out shortly afterwards.

Any official documentation? Will this be in the next 1-2 years or considerably sooner? I was planning on a new s939 rig next year, but if m2 is going to be out then I might wait till' then, and then get a new s939 for REALLY cheap! :D I never like buying the newest of the new, waste of money.

well considering my Athlon XP is how old now and I have yet to stress the 2.1 GHz processor I don't think you'll have to worry. Unless you're one of those people that have to buy a new chip every time speeds go up by .2 MHz

Well, I would still go with S939. Its coming out in 2007 so you have another full year of being high end and then half a year of midrange and then your low end. Most people upgrade every 1 and a half years anyway so it doesnt matter. Besides it will most likely be delayed to 2008.

Nah, 2007 is too far, i was planning early 06' probably. By 2007 or 2008 I will have a start on my career and have enough money to not plan like I do now. I will hopefull jsut be able to budget out a month or two and then have enough money for a whole new rig.

M2 is scheduled for release in the second quarter of '06. There are a couple of cores that aren't being released until the fourth quarter of '06, but I believe those are the semprons.

production of the new socket M2 Cpu's starts in april of '06. AMD is plannig on keeping the 939 CPU until the end of 06/beginning of 07. Then in 07 they are planning the release of there quad core CPU Which will probably be a new socket again.

Sheesh, if i had a new Socket-A mobo i'd be happy lol. Will keep this system if i don't have to sell it to afford other parts, hopefully I won't have to.

I'm actually leaning towards an Opteron 170, more so than anything. If only I could afford it. Probly can only afford X2 3800+.

Are you sure it will begin with the FX-60? I was think it would overlap similar to what the 754 did with the 939s. The top 754 CPU was the A643700 (IIRC) and the 939 backed up and began with the A643000 and went up. This seems to be a more logical move for AMD instead of instantly phasing the 939 line into obsolete status. It would also make it so that the lower budget people can buy a cheaper, slower M2 and then upgrade later instead of making you buy a super high-end CPU right off the bat. I would think they might start off with an FX-53 or 55 for socket M2.

AMD will start its M2 processors at lower CPU speeds, and the highest m2 speeds will be x2 5000+, and Fx-60/62 both of which will sell for more than $1100USD. Since the lower end M2s will have the same speeds as the higher 939's there is no sense in spending more money for new technology with equal speeds, for now anyway. This is good for those who are still planning on building a 939 system, 939 CPU's price should start dropping soon.
