would a 500W be enough to power a Q6700, 9800GTX? im just checking i dont think it will but just checking

Depends more on the quality of the power supply than the actual wattage, but I would say that's a bit on the low side.

It will work just fine. Even 400W should be enough.

Rubbish - even with sufficient 12V rail amperage, there is no room for upgrade and you don't want a PSu running flat out.

Absolutely not.

nVidia recommend a minimum of 450W however at max draw the card will use 140W. This is nearly 12A.

The PSU you require must have a single rail with at least 26A on it, or several rails with EPS12 certification and a total rail amperage of 26A. Any other PSU you will have to remove 12V+1 from your calcs and see if the other rails total 26A as 12V+1 is for the CPU only under ATX design standards.

Essentially for that system you will need a Corsair 650W which is the best bang for the buck at the moment ($80). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005
