I had an Epson Stylus 900 that was a good printer which finally quit on me.I got a Epson CX4800 for Christmas. It prints okay when it prints but takes a long time to start from the initial print command.I called Epson and they sent a new printer but itdoes the same thing.Any ideas?

Pobably just the printer itself. The time it needs to warm up and clean up the printer heads and what not.

How long are we talking about? like seconds.. or minutes..

i used to work for canon and i saw the inside workings of every major brand out there. needless to say, i bought a Canon 1 year after i left the company because i know that they are the best printer on the market. the old epson and hp printers are nice, but canon makes the best stuff now.

Sounds like some fanboyism to me... :)

Hmm..., what is the computer specs that you are using. It could be that the drivers and printer are causing a longer print time because of the fact that the CX4800 is a more complex machine. I would possible hooking it up to a more recent computer and see if that changes the response time at all...
