Equal ATI card to the 8800GTS?

I'm looking to maybe spend a little less than $270 on my graphics card, and was wondering if there are any ATI cards that are close to the same performance of that of the 8800GTS that i could maybe save a few bucks on. If not, i'll just tough it out and get the 8800GTS. Any suggestions for a card that's close to that of the 8800GTS performance wise that is a little bit cheaper?

The HD2900XT is equal to (or slightly better than) the 8800GTS 640MB. But, I would recommend the 8800, simply because ATI drivers are still buggy.

Seems to have a bit higher price tag than the 8800 also. I'm pretty sure i'm going to go with the 8800GS, Benchmarks just make it the obvious choice, I just wasn't sure if i could maybe get an equal card for a bit less if it were ati, thanks. :)

wait a while as the price are dropping so rapidly that you may get even good card in your budget.I am telling this because I have read a article about their new 9 series card which are expected to launch this christmas.

I sure hope you joking. If a person has the money, and the need, for a new computer component, the only reason to wait until a new component comes out is if it comes out in 2 weeks or less. No point at all in waiting 5 months for an un-needed performance increase.

i have both 8800gtx and 2900xt, it seems the ati does better in dx10. i tried playing same two games(call of jauruz dx10 and lost planet dx10 on those cards and it runs smoother with the ati though once i sli the 8800 is a different story. i say buy whatever you can afford and dont let fanboys stop you from choosing the card you wanted.

some benchmarks for 2900xt vs 8800gts.

nice game btw.

HOLY! :D
