ERROR after fresh install

My usb bootable OS (oldxp) was missing a boot.ini file So I get this error after the bios loads... windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.......

I am now trying to install a fresh copy of windows 8 onto this fresh hard drive, but it will not boot the installation it will only goto the previous error message, how do I get it to let me format the drive??

Thank you all so much!!!

Obviously its not booting from the usb. Go into the bios and change the first boot device to usb.

I have done that as the original xp I used to format was on a usb, it went half way thri the install rebooted itself and has since been on the above error message in the link, I abandoned that OS and now want to use my win 8usb, but nothing I do gets me to the screen that would enable me to format a partition, it just keeps going to the error message... is it possible that the installation process overwrote the master boot record??

Its much easier to install an OS that is on a cd/dvd. Can you put it on a DVD? You are getting the error because its not booting to your flash drive to install windows 8, its still trying to load XP.

What program did you use to put it on the flash drive? When I did a usb XP install you have to boot back into the flash drive twice to finish installing.

is there a way to delete the partition without an os or a recovery cd ??? that would solve my problem if i could wipe it clean

Have you checked your bios settings to see what the first boot device is? I know you said you did but if its still coming up with that message then its not trying to boot to the usb. I don't know what else to tell you. I used wintoflash as well and you have to boot back into the flash drive after xp copies over the install files. Maybe the usb stick wasn't setup properly from wintoflash?

it did make it through the first part of setup off of usb, took forever too, but im not sure if this helps as i dont know what it was set to before or if it changed at all, but in the bios after i change 1st boot device to usb there is another option at bottom under HDD group boot priority if i hit enter on that i get a new menu for 1. 4th master st10000DM003-1CH162 or 2. USB-HDD0 sandisk cruiser glide 2.01 there is insttruction on the side to move up and down, but it will not allow me to move them

Each bios is different on how to select and move to position 1. Most are highlight the one you want to press f5 f6 buttons to move up or down.

so heres what I did... I could not move the order in the bios, so I unplugged the HD completely loaDED WIN8 INSTALLER, WHICH THEN LET ME DELETE THE EXISTING PARTITION, ITHEN SHUT DOWN, PLUGGED hd BACK IN AND RESTARTED THE SETUP AND IT IS RUNNING SMOOTHLY SO FAR!!! sorry hit caps half way thru lol

THANK YOU so much for helping me figure this out
