Error in Xp

Hi i have small problem with a error when i get into windows Xp....
Error reads C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\~NEWDOT~1.DLL
Does anyone know how to get rid of this error please....
I have Packard Bell istart 1359 running Xp home ....
 
The computer has had installed on it some software called NewDotNet. This is a software component associated with spyware. The software may have been removed. However, links to this software within the registry are still in place.

To prevent the error message from appearing at start-up: Click on Start, Run, type regedit and press Enter. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Click on Run, then look in the right hand pane for any items containing the text NEWDOT. Select these items and delete them. Now expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete any items containing NEWDOT found there.

Other traces of the NewDotNet spyware may remain on the computer. A computer which has had NewDotNet installed on it may also contain other spyware.

Sometimes this malware can be removed using an entry in Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs.

That is considered adware/malware. You may be infected still. Please do the following. Afterwards we will get rid of that error you are getting.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com but DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.



Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
 
Hi.
in order to repair this trouble. the best way you should remove "C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\~NEWDOT~1.DLL" programe which it is appearing error message.

Firstly thankyou all for your help....
I have removed all traces of newdot.....
I already had Malwarebytes on my system,done a quick search and a full search,
plus i have done a full search for virus using Alvira Protect.....
And guess what i still have the error.....Dam Packard Bell for putting so much garbage on there systems....Lol.....
I tryed reinstalling xp today to get rid,and i got the blue error screen soon after i started installation.......
 
If you would have posted the logs as i suggested you would have been done by now. Is this a laptop or desktop and did you use recovery cd or a genuine xp install cd?

Yes, I could have gotten rid of that error message just by having you post the hijackthis log and I could have told you what to fix to where it wouldn't show up anymore.
 
Can you still access windows or are you stuck at installing windows again?

Malwarebytes is outdated and needs to be updated. Also you would need to post a hijackthis log. instructions were in my first post.

Yes still can use windows,i did not even get to the format stage,so the system is still running.....i will update malwarebytes and do what you said and see what happens then....i am new to this sort of thing so bear with me...thanks for your help so far...

Install McAfee 8.5.0 + McAfee 8.5.0 antispyware.Adjust all their options properly and update it.Restart your computer.Now again restart your computer in the SAFE MODE and scan it with the McAfee.After that restart your computer in the NORMAL MODE and scan the registry with the program called Eusing Free Registry Cleaner.After that delete ALL found invalid registry.Restart your computer again.

NOTE: If you do not adjust ALL options in the McAfee properly,this will not work at all!

Then click on fix checked at the bottom.

Please post an uninstall list using hijackthis as you have some old software installed that should be uninstalled and the lastest software installed. Please open hijackthis, click on open misc tools section, click on open uninstall manager, click on save list and save it. Then copy and paste it back here.

Do those hijackthis fixes, then rerun malwarebytes with the latest database and post its log along with a fresh hijackthis scan. Finally post your uninstall list.

What I had you do would not cause your new issue to happen. Do a repair install of the operating system. Have you done anything else to your system to possibly cause this to happen?

I have installed a fresh o/s on this system.
All is good now..

I no it was not your fault,probaby me not following your instructions to the letter.......:)
