Hi, I'm pretty new here so forgive me for going back to basics!
I have an eMachines desktop with the below spec:
· Microsoft® Windows® Milennium Edition
· Intel® Pentium® III processor 866 MHz
· Intel® 810 Chipset, 100 MHz FSB
· 64 MB SDRAM (1 DIMM available for upgrade up to 256MB)
· 30 GB HDD 1
· Built-in 8x Max. CD-RW; 48x Max. CD-ROM; 3.5" 1.44 MB FDD
· Intel® Direct 3DAGP (shared memory)
· 10/100 Mb Ethernet card
· 56K ITU v.90 PCI internal Fax/Modem
· Intel® 82801 AC '97 Audio
Obviously the 64MB RAM has become a problem as of late, and I'm upgrading it to XP home soon so I'm gonna need some more. It has a spare RAM slot, for which i went out and bought a 128 stick of SDRAM. Then when i start up i get the eMachines logo screen then three processor beeps. the screen displays the message:
"Extended RAM failed at offset 1A"
Ive read it could be due to faulty DIMM's but ive tried with two different sticks now and still the same result. Anyone had a similar problem or know how to get around this or am i gonna be stuck with 64 meg forever?!
One thing to note is that i managed to nab a really old 32MB DIMM from a friend and this caused no problems. So im currently running on 94MB RAM, which isnt much better to be honest!!
ANY HELP AT ALL WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
