Error printing

Yo it's me, I helped a friend set up his new computer, HP pavilion a6600f. Windows Vista.
He said he installed the printer using the software that came with it. It is a HP Deskjet F4240.

At first I was playing around like a dummy with the whole XPS document writer before I realized that's not a printer.

So I clicked to add a new local printer, the HP list didn't have the exact model printer, but about HP it listed Hewlett-Packard and the only thing listed was "HP Deskjet F4200 series" so I selected that.

I shows a green checkmark on the icon when I look at printers off the control pannel, but when I right click on properties and try to print a test page, I see in the system tray that there is one document pending for bestbuy(this was the tower on display), but when I check on it's status is says Error-Sent to printer

you need to uninstall everything you installed from the disc. go to the manufacture website and download the updated drivers from them. have the printer connected whether its usb or serial and then install the downloaded drivers. after install reboot computer and then retry

you need to go to the computer that the printer is hooked to and click the box that says share on network or somethign like that I had this problem with my desktop and this is what I did to fix the problem

Got it working

Well I did all that, I did even more research and tried everything. Eventually I sat back "okay, I know for sure the connection is right and the computer is sending. I thought for a while, and decided to go back to the basics.

The USB on the printer end was upside-down. D'oh! It wasn't my fault, although I should have checked that first lol. Thanks for all your help.
