Error while burning !!!!!

Error while burning !!!!!
I have burned over 100 single layer dvds with no error.
But when I try to burn a Dual Layer dvd I get errors and it fails.

With shrink it got an error and didn't even burn it.
With Nero it started the burn and stopped 10 seconds later.

These DVD's DL were too expensive to let them go to waste.

My burner is brand new so that is not the problem
I am only burning at 4x
I have the lastest drivers and firmware

I set up everything correctly to 8.5 gb
I even put the double encode option on nero to prevent errors, but still

I get the Error message below, Any Help guys

everything seemed normal up to that point.
 
are you sure your burner supports DL dvds? probably yes, but make you sure it does
and what version of nero/shrink do you use? once i had older version at makes similar problems, but even with SL dvds...
 
Howdy stranger :)

Couple of things to try...BTW, you do have a DL drive ... ;)

1. Did you have problems before you flashed your drive? If not, maybe you should revert back to before you updated.

2. Try uninstalling the IDE controllers drivers & rebooting letting Windows reinstall them.

3. What media are you using? You need to spend the extra pennies and use TYs or Verbs

4. Remember that DLs are burned a little differently than SLs. You should try to read up on that.
 
make sure you're using +R DL's

i've had terrible results with -R's, as you CAN NOT customize the point where the split occurs, as the lead-in of a -R is pre-recorded to the disc!
 
First off, switch to IMGBURN for burning DL disks. It is a better app than Nero and its free. Second, make sure you are using quality DL disks, my experience shows that I have the best luck with Verbatim disks.

Aren't -R's cheaper and/or faster though? I've never had any sort of problems with -R's before, but it could just be the burner I use...
