hey everyone, i just did a clean install of windows 7 x64 on my dell studio 1537 today (service tag: 42TGMH1). everything has been going well except (x64 vista drivers have been doing the trick) that my e-sata does not work, so i can't copy my media back to the laptop hdd... well, i could use usb, but it would take forever, and i want to fix the problem regardless.

so anyway, ive been searching around for a solution, and so far the best i have found was this post, which pertains to a slightly different model than i have. the poster refers to a jmicron driver, and i found a page that has them for download, but i dont know which one i would need. then he talks about the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. i also found a place to download that, but its talking about raid and stuff, which ive never used, and dont have to have.

so basically, the info i have is vague, and without going through trial and error, i dont know what i need here. plus, this whole deal seems like a lot of hassle for something that there should be a simple driver for. so, does anyone know what i need to to here? some help would be appreciated!

nevermind, i figured it out. turned out to be that it needed the intel chipset driver installed for the e-sata to work properly. i found that if i went to device manager and clicked scan for hardware changes on the e-sata driver, the drive would immediately show up. the problem was that it wouldnt automatically recognize it.

so anyway, things are going well now. i have one more driver to track down, then i'll be good to go. thanks anyway.
