I'm considering getting an external hard drive that has esata capabilities. Problem is that the server I'm planning on connecting it to does not. If I get a USB/eSATA adapter will it still transfer data at eSATA rates? Thanks.

The speed will be limited to whatever can be transferred via usb. I believe usb is slower than esata.

It seems alot faster i have about three External HDD my S-ATA one is alot quicker then my IDE one at everything but i would argree with johnb35 on how the speed would be limited
