i will be getting an asus p5k deluxe mobo and it has wifi on the mobo. is it possible for me to connect to the internet using both the ethernet and wireless at the same time? this is so if one of them loses signal for a second, there is backup so i won't ever get disconnected to the internet

uuummmm...... i suppose it could work if you have it setup right.... but ethernet would be more reliable..

well, dunno bout it working - as for it being a "backup", there's no point, as when is ur ethernet cable likely to fail? anytime soon, i dont think so.

exactly . If any problems for me it would have been i have had to reset my modem and if that happened to you... you would lose your wireless anyway!

If you have a wired connection available, then use that. Wired is not going to drop out on you or be as prone to interference as wireless is, if something ever does happen it would most likely be with your modem.

As for using both, you can have both enabled, however if one cuts out I believe it will still take some time for the other to actually become the "primary", so if you are gaming you will still get disconnected (I think).

i dont know if it's my modem, router, or ISP that sometimes get's disconnected, but it does once in a while when i plug in the ethernet cable. my appartment is close enough to my school to get wifi so it will be two different connections, not from the same router. i guess i'll have to find out after i get the mobo unless anyone has already tried this

If you will be having your wireless NIC connected to a different network then the wired ethernet, then for sure if you become disconnected on one NIC, it will take a few seconds for the other NIC to become active and for you to have internet access again.

it's possible! you should keep in mind some applications are connection specific. if one connection dropps out you might loose functionality with that particular application. but as for having some sort of super internet fault tollerance with two connections, sure, why not...

Do it this way:

Use ethernet as main
Then if it drops enable wireless.

are you sure that you can access thee wireless network!
is it unsecured? Or you have user and pass???
:)
P.S. I wish our school had an wireless (200 m)...

You mean like at the same time? Like bridge the connections?

You are better off running dual NIC and an extra NIC is like what $20?
