Ethernet connection problem - help!

Hello,

I recently removed a 2nd hard drive from my desktop computer (I posted about this too - thanks to those who helped!) but after I took the hard drive out, this computer's internet access ended. I continually got "intel ethernet connection i217-v driver or hardware related issues" when I troubleshooted.

Since the internet was down, I downloaded the most recent drivers, put them on my external hard drive, and installed them - nothing. I reset my router. I plugged in the internet cable from this computer, which is obviously working, into that one. I checked that the cable I was using for that computer was working by plugging it into this one - it was. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drives from the motherboard drivers I have on disk. I disabled and reenabled the ethernet card. I tried every sort of thing I could find online about fixing that issue... and nothing.

I notice that when I plug in the internet cables that they do not light up, like they do for this computer. I tried so many things that I think it really is a hardware failure, although nothing else on the computer seems to be having an issue. As if somehow I zapped this port even though I really wasn't around it at all when I removed the other hard drive.

For now, I've ordered an ethernet card which I'm hoping solves the issue.

So my questions are:
- Does this seem to be a hardware issue?
- Should a new ethernet card fix this?

Sounds pretty dead. The new one should be able to sort you out.

I've had weird hardware issues like that happen too. Once I was replacing the side of my case when the PC completely froze. One of the 256 MB sticks of PC-133 RAM died based on that event even though they didn't seem particularly related..
