Ethernet in two places?

I'm buying a new computer soon and I'll be moving my old computer to my TV (about five feet) and use it as a DVR. I'll be using Beyond TV 4.

Now the question I have is, how can I split my ethernet connection? I need one for my computer which does the internet. But I also need one going to my other computer that updates the electronic programing guide for Beyond TV.

I heard that I need to buy a switch, but I only see ones that have 5 ports or more. I only need like 2.

Not if you're trying to get the internet signal to both computers. The router will take the internet IP coming into the house and set-up and assign a bunch of IP addresses for all computer connected to it. Plus, the Netgear isn't much more anyway and is a MUCH better quality piece of equipment.

I'm worried that it will screw everything up. I already have router that is plugged into my cable modem and then there is five connections plugged into that router. If I buy a router and plug it into my room, will it affect anyone?

Oh, well if you already have a router, then just get rid of it and replace it with this wireless one. And what exactly are you getting at when you ask if it will affect anyone?

Why would I do that? We live in a big old house and wireless just doesn't work. Besides the router is three floors down from me. I mean, maybe a better option would to just buy a longer Ethernet port and just switch it when the EPG needs to update. Could I buy an wired/wireless router and plug my ethernet connection from my room into the router and then plug another ethernet cable from the router into my computer?
