Ethernet problem

Hey guys-
I am working on a computer for a relative. Due to relentless spyware and viruses I was forced to restore it to the factory defaults (it's a Gateway, so I just used the recovery disk). Windows and all of the drivers restored just fine, but the integrated ethernet is not working. It doesn't even have activity lights when I put a cord in. I have determined that the problem is strictly related to the computer itself, all of my other components (modem, router, cords, etc...) have been tested and work.

Has anyone seen this problem before or have any pointers?
Thanks :confused::confused::confused:

I checked the bios, and it is enabled. And it is listed in device manager without any driver problems. I also reinstalled the driver a couple times with no luck

remove any external peripherals and usb devices, only hook up a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, does it still persist?
