EU wants Windows 7 to ship with a choice of web browser

I'd like to see a similar approach as to what is found in a lot of Linux distros, you could install everything or you could select the packages that you want.
 
Agreed, I hope it continues with the eventual purchase of an OS only with the customer having the decision on what and what not to install. It can be bad enough with your own install but pre installed OS's come with a load of garbage.

You do know that Intel had been investigated for like 7 years before charged and they were found guilty in the EU courts of paying off manufacturers to delay competitor products?

Remember when you could never buy a Dell with an AMD processor? They used to be an Intel only company, and they were offering shady discounts to Dell if Dell refused to use AMD.

It is quite simple. Apple is a closed all in one product. Microsoft gets sold on 100s of different PC manufacturers. Microsoft doesn't make computers, Apple does. So you have HP, Dell, IBM, so on and so forth.

Since Microsoft is on tons of different of companies products they cannot play favorites with anyone and have to give every PC company a fair chance at a fair market.

Some of those companies develop software for Microsoft and that is how they make their money.

If you really want to read up on it go back and read up on Netscape versus Microsoft like 15 years ago, it clearly outlines why Microsoft can't do such things.

The article I read claimed intel was offering special rebates to companies that used intel exclusively. I don't see any issue there.

About IE again. A major bash against Microsoft is that they are ruining competition. It's called advertise? Adobe advertises photoshop and their other products. I think if anyone should be blamed for ruining competition it should be apple for their proprietary shit.
 
The whole thing is a bunch of nonsense even with media player. If I make a big package with addons and someone else makes the addon too for free, but thinks its unfair because I add (MY) addon to (MY) package, stick it, jump on it, what ever phrase you want to use. Make the big package too or shut up! If thats the case Firefox should have to give a link to microsoft IE8 download on there site right beside the firefox download.

Its like fartknocker Door Handle and Steering Wheel Co. making GM, Ford, sell there cars without steering wheels or door handles because using the company they do takes away from them giving away free ones. Or like GM putting a free air freshener in the car and getting sued by other air freshener co. Because (Oh God) they will never buy one of ours. So when you buy the car there is 20 different air fresheners hanging on the rear view mirror. Pick one, after smelling 20 different air fresheners you lost your sense of smell anyway.

No they were paying people off to purposely delay the release of AMD products. You can't pay a retail chain to release Intel first and then a week later release AMD, that is illegal. They tried covering it up through coupons and that is why they got fined 1 billion dollars.

The reason MS got screwed in Anti Trust law is because they are a product that many companies use. So, therefore MS is legally obligated to give all these companies fair treatment.

As for the software and browser? Well, I think in say 10 years from now most of that will be a non issue as more people are becoming more computer savvy every day.
 
The AMD and Intel thing, I am the opposite. I think Intel got what they had coming for a long time. I even read once (dont know if it was true or not) that Asus was paranoid in releasing there first motherboard for AMD processors because of the retaliation from Intel.
