Alright, I am a complete noob, first and foremost. I have an AVI file movie. I have a DVD burner and blank DVDs. I need to know every thing I need to convert it to whatever file type needed for DVD players to play. I need a program to convert it and I need to know which file format DVD players play. I need to know each step for converting this file into a DVD file.

alright ivwe beend oing this for awhile and i suggest nero express it cconverts it to the apporpriate format, and theres some options youy cna play with, if you cant get this program i suggest you get win avivideo convertor, i ca send you an email for a serial # for it, and int here you can just open the file you want to convewrt and select vob, and it will amke you a video ts file some where and then you just take the folder and put it in any burning program and burn it

First, are your DVD's and DVD Burner compatible? If DVD+-R, does it support both or just one format?

Second, you will need a program.. Free or willing to pay? Nero, Roxio, WinDVD, and many other are available depending on your preference.

Third, most of the time, you can drop the movie files into the program and it'll do all the conversion and such for you; As I use WinDVD, so I know that it works.

Fourth, most DVD players will play DVD-R, depending on some.. they wont be able to read DVD+R as some DVD Burner also.

I tried using Nero by going to DVD, then DVD Video, but when I add the file into the window is says incompatibe file type. So I converted it to .vob but it was 2.53 GB, but the limit is 2GB. Do you know any programs to like cut videos in half? If you did, then I would be good to go.

Ok, so I got the video converted to .vob, then what do I do? I tried just burning it to a DVD but that didnt work.
