EVGA 8800 GTX or GTS?

Is there a big enough difference between the EVGA 8800GTX 768MB and the EVGA 8800GTS 640MB cards to justify the $150 price difference?
 
There is barely a difference between the G80 8800GTX and the G92 8800GTS in terms of performance, the only difference would be the whopping price and also their release dates. The GTX more than one year old, its a very outdated card, a card that nVidia did not bother to iinovate or update due to a lack of competition from AMD/ATi. The G92 is way cheaper performance around the same, so yeah, its a no brainer, get the 512MB 8800GTS, you wouldn't regret it. I LOVE mine.
 
What manufacturer did you get yours from? Mine is the XFX alpha dog one. It overclocks pretty well, although most of the cards I have seen out there are just the reference design with their respective logo slapped on so yeah, I don't think there is much of a difference.

Don't touch the GTX no mattter what you do, unless you are getting it for a bargain price. :D
 
Mines a PNY... I haven't tried Overclocking it, I don't know if it'd be worth it for the performance increase.

PNY didn't even bother to slap their logo on, lol. If you want to play Crysis it is meant to be played, then you will have to overclock it to the max.
 
I used to :(, in hind sight I should have kept a log of it, an excel file or something with all the stats. I overclocked and benchmarked it during the holidays and now uni has started in March so I haven't been gaming lately. I forgot what my overclock were :( But I do recall getting at least a 3000 boost in 3Dmark 06 when I maxed out the graphics card and my Q6600.
 
As simple as moving some sliders in small increments and then testing stability and watching temps. Now volt modding is another story but I don't do that.
 
I went up about 35mhz on the core and maybe the same on the memory. Brought up my 3dmark06 score up 1000 points.

EDIT: Oh yea, with my fan working at 65%, my card is at 35-40C at idle (depends on room temp) and I really haven't running hot yet. Haven't played any serious games since I got it.
 
Yeah its really easy to overclock, I used ntunes first, because I can increase the fan speed manually to 100% with it and Riva tuner does not seem to support my card back then. I have found from experience in overclock my other nvidia cards, that ntune gives you a lower overclock than third party programs, probably it has extra built in safety features that third party ones do not have I don't know. :confused:
 
You really should overclock, every gamer should do it, otherwise you are just saying no to free performance. Its not as dangerous as people make it out to be.
 
Tbh Dan, i can't really say it does. Without modding it you can't realistically give it any more voltage so that throws that option (probably the most potentially harming) out the window.
You will know anyway, i just let ATiTools find the clock maxes until i physically see artifacts or it crashes. Then note down the speeds, reboot and set the clocks like 5MHz lower, if it crashes again, lower them a little more until you get a stable overclock.
Make sure you keep checking your temps as well mate, i know you know that already though.:P
