i know it isnt a very new video card which is why i want to update. right now its running on a p4 system, but hopefully if i can find a good mobo it'll be running with an e5300. this one will almost run something like WoW at max settings, but something like COD4 it only runs smooth on low. so for about 100 to 150, what's a good upgrade?

You can find Nvidia GTS250s for under $150 now. Or, on the ATI side of the fence, the HD5750 can be had for under $150 as well. Both would be a huge upgrade for you.

If you are going to build a new system, make sure to also get a new power supply. It isn't worth trying to re-use the p4 system's unit.

i upgraded my psu a long time ago. i have a 500 watt now, which i'm pretty sure should be fine. that ati really does look like it will do one heck of a job. thank you

My pleasure, Tronsco. You should be fine with the 500w and the e5300 with the ATI card as long as the PSU isn't two old. I don't recommend recycling a PSU over two years old into a new build.

Well, i've been planning this build for quite a while. one of the first components for it was the 500 watt psu which i've just been using in my old system while i get the other components. and so now, i've got a good dvd drive, a cd drive, a 320 and 80gig hdd, 4gigs ddr2 ram, and a dualcore processor. so, i just need the mobo and a better video card.
