EVGA GTX 960 2Gb & 4Gb SuperSC

Good Morning,

I am trying to get some help with the two difference with these two cards beside the 2Gb and 4Gb. Specs wise it looks like the same exact card but the 2 and 4. They are only $40 difference. Wouldn't it be wise to just buy the 4Gb card for $40 more instead of the 2Gb card? Please let me know if you guys know any information. Thank you.

With my personal experience, I wouldn't get either due to the 128 bit memory. I've had video cards with 256 bit memory, and then purchased a supposedly better card with 128 bit memory. With a little overclocking, the video card with 256 bit memory slightly outperformed the one with 128 bit memory. If at all possible at least bump up to the 970, as on other forums I've read the 960 is not the best purchase for the performance.

Since you said the above you wouldn't go with the 128 bit memory and that the 960 not best for its performance.

At first I was going to get a card that supports 4 display and a better performance to my original card above. You mentioned to bump it up to at least a 970. Between the two cards below, which would you prefer or is is a personal preference on the brand?

I'd get the EVGA. Both are good manufacturers but the EVGA is cheaper and smaller and in my opinion looks better.
 
Before I make the decision to buy this card in a couple days. I believe someone mentioned that PCI-E is backward compatible. So if my board only have 2.0 that card will still work perfectly fine right? I won't lose that much of a performance?
 
The pci-e 3.0 is backwards compatible 100%, As for the performance, it will decrease, but not by much. What is your computer specs anyways?

As for my opinion to whether its worth spending the extra $40 for the 4GB version over the 2gb version,I would say yes even if your only gaming at 1080p.

For example ive seen BF4 use nearly the full 2gb of VRam on my 670 depending on what map and how much is going on (im using 1920x1080 ),If i cranked the details up even more (MSAA) im sure it would go over 2gb if my card had more Vram.
Not only that,Games are getting more demanding..Get the 4gb version. ;)

PC is about 4 years ago but still running good so I just want to upgrade the video card.

Yes get the 4GB. I got the 4GB GTX 760 and don't regret it. I 'ummed and arred' over the price and performance differences between 2GB and 4GB cards and at the end of the day 4GB isn't much more expensive and if you ever go higher than 1080p you'll thank yourself, so go 4GB. :good:
 
Thank you all of you guys for the information and your suggestions. I might of consider with getting the 4gb GTX 970 EVGA. It was cheaper 2 days ago by like $30. I guess I might have to wait 2 more days and hopefully they drop it and save $30 lol

Gotta be careful thinking like that, next thing ya know they bump it back up by $30 and then it changes your whole plan....but there again, you could wait a whole year and you could save $75....:D
