eVGA Nvidia GTX 285 FTW

I wanna get two of these and run them SLI in my new build, but I've read some mixed reviews about them and have seen that a lot of people are having problems with them. Can anyone confirm or deny these, and if so recommend me another top end card to run SLI?

Thanks a lot,

Manny

it is always better to have a single high end gpu than sli or crossfire because later on in life you can go sli with the gtx295 which would be imense, have you given the gtx295 a thought?

they are expensive but very good

about the gpu's in sli i have never heard of any problems

Rather go with one GTX 295. Its a dual GPU card, so its practically in SLI already. That card will handle most games easily, and when you need a performance boost just put another GTX295 in there.

you have to take into consideration your power supply spec-one gtx295 uses alot of power but not as much as 2x gtx285's!!

list your psu and cpu, let someone check to see if the psu is up to the task and your cpu is not going to be a bottle neck

Well I'm currently in the process of building the PC that will be using this card(s), I'm looking into the;

CORSAIR CMPSU-850HX 850W

Do you think that will be enough to run two GTX295's in the future on a i7 core or should I go for the;

Also which one of these cards should I go for?

i think the hx850 will run 2x gtx295's but with little headroom!

you do realise how powerfull the gtx295 is? by the time you need another for sli the intel i7 will be ancient lol....

wait for some nvidia buff to come in and tell you which one of the 2 is the best (im a ATI man myself)

i would go for the cheaper one, they're the same thing, just with different clocks, you could just use evga precision to achieve the same clocks

2 GTX 285's out performs a GTX 295 by a good bit. Let's not forget that a GTX 295 is made of 2 GTX 275's. Now I don't have to tell you that a GTX 285 out performs a GTX 275. Also 3 GTX 285's out performs 2 GTX 295's. Also little to no games use quad GPU's most only support use of 2 or 3 and even more only use 1. So I say go with the GTX 285. The only thing that would keep me from buying 2 GTX 285's over 1 GTX 295 is the power requirements need for 2 GTX 285's.

Feel free to quote me if I am wrong about this

Exactly, might as well get a 295 right now and if you ever need more performance add another

go with the gtx295, by the time the gtx295 becomes underpowered in the graphics department quad gpu's will be the new in thing!

you know like quad core cpu's are a waste of time because games dont use 4 cores, well now games do use for cores and the same will be for the gpu's!

maybe buying a single gtx285 for the time being will be enough but if you are considering buying 2 for sli then buy the gtx295 and save the sli for future

Maybe but considering 3 GTX 285's beats 2 GTX 295's it would actually be better to get GTX 285's because they would be good for now and the future. I would say go with a GTX 295 also because it is more then you will need. By the time it is underpowered you will probably be planning a new build.

you are comparing 3 gtx 285's to 2 295's now bacause the full potential of quad gpu's cant be used at this present time, but when his single gtx295 becomes too underpowerd for him quad gpu's will be usable and will be better performing than the 3 gtx 285's...

lets face facts

gtx 285's in sli-perform better than gtx295, but use more power cost more money and less upgradabilty depending on pci-e slots on mobo

gtx 295 is a top performing gpu, uses less power costs less and has the option of quad gpu in future

The fact that current games can't use quad GPU's has nothing to do with the fact that 3 GTX 285's beats 2 GTX 295's. In one or two years when every game released can support quad GPU's that is not going to make the GTX 295 SLI any better. Your right it is more logical to get a GTX 295 it cost less and will perform good enough for anything. Honestly I would go with a 5870 instead but I'm not sure how they stand up to the GTX 295 yet.
