Exchanging a laptop, How can I make an image or backup

Hi,
I have a question about a new laptop that I just bought. The laptop is only charging to 10% so after browsing the forums it seems that the battery is essentially shot. I'm going to bring it back to the store, likely for exchange of the exact model, but I have installed a bunch of programs and set up settings. Is there a way of creating a backup disc image that I could just load onto the new computer.
I know Windows has the "backup and restore" option but I wasn't sure if a backup would be transferable to a new computer.

  • Windows 10 x64

I've never tried it but, even with the same exact model, I don't think it will work. The motherboard of the original laptop is "married" to the OS on that drive so, if you move the drive to another machine, I would suspect that the OS will be invalidated.

On Windows 7, many programs work on new Windows install with just copy paste. Following needs to be copied:

-Both program files folders
-Programdata folder
-Users folder

No sure about Windows 10. Also software that write something crucial on registry, won't work after that copy-paste trick. That also don't help with settings, Windows update etc.

All you have to do is buy a 15 gb plus hard disk, plug it in, and a backup box should appear, than just click it.
