why is it that nothing works in lunix ubutu i mean executional files wont work
does antone know where i can get free vista or xp ??
 
Linux and Windows are two totally different beasts, neither are particularly inter-operable with applications. And you can't get a free copy of XP or Vista legally and we won't support you, however I think you may be able to purchase an OEM edition (I'm hazy on the rules on those, anyone?) which is cheaper than the retail version!

N.B. Some Windows applications MAY work under a program called WINE in Linux.

Windows executables don't work under unix. Vista and XP are commercial Operating Systems, you cannot get them free unless under special circumstances (you work for them etc.)

I think the only way to buy windows XP today is to get it installed by a local IT tech. Otherwise, buy a new PC with Vista pre-installed or by Vista outright for more than it's worth.
 
.exe files dont work under linux.. unless you use wine to emulate the program.

dude. a .exe file is windows thing. linux is not windows. and we are not allowed to tell you about illegal downloading

the way i see it is that this site is for all things to do with computers
and cracking etc is to do with computers,
how many of you hav got pirate dvds ??

look i didnt want a forum full of people thinking im thick and im not into oppression
everything you can get for free you get it .
all of my gear desktops laptops etc iv got for free. unlike you lot i cant afford to go out and spend ****ing £200 on windows
id rather get it for free next time il keep it between people who can help.
iv got my windows now and im happy

I, for one, do not. I would think the majority of folks on these Forums don't also, seeing as how (most) of us know the ramifications of doing such. As for the rest of your last Post, play at your own risk, and don't cry to us when Big Bill sends you a letter saying 'see me in court'

Anyway, FWIW in response to your .exe question: Open up a Terminal and type:
sudo apt-get update

HA! yeah dude. sometimes you have to live on the rules. windows is a great os. i support the windows team (well i will onc they COME OUT WITH SP1!!!! where has my money gone. into toilet paper?) anyway... you need to pay sometimes else it is then a free world and everyone dies because no one wants to work.

You are a great philosopher... but rules are clear enough for you to understand... go look for another forum.

If you want freedom and want to be different, then keep using linux.
