expanding my wireless range.

Hi all,

I'm having a bit of range issues with my current setup, and I'm looking for some opinions from some more experienced individuals than myself.

I currently have a Netgear N300 as my router in my home network. Simple network just some wireless connections with laptops and a pc wired in. However, I just purchased a new tv and a bluray player with wifi built in, and i need to get a connection. Problem is its in the opposite corner of the house on the main floor, while the router is in the basement.

It's not really feasible to move the router to a more central location, so I was wondering what my options were. access point, range extender, etc. Is netgear pretty good with working with other brand devices? would something like This work?

any input is appreciated! thanks

You can actually buy another router like you have and hook it up to the other router with a cable and set it close to your tv and bluray player. You can also try getting a wireless repeater, some of them work and some don't.

I don't really have a way of getting an ethernet cable into the room with the bluray, otherwise that would be ideal. Problem is the whole house is drywalled and im not willing to tear into the walls. I was thinking about a repeater, but i have no experience with them so i was a bit weary...

So if the router is in the basement, you can't run an ethernet cable over to where you equipment is and drill a hole in the floor and run the cable up? All you need is one small hole.

It's a finished basement, and in order to get ethernet to that side of the house, I would have cable running through doorways and what not to get to that side of the house. =[ i wish I could do that. In order to do it that way, I would have to move the modem and router to where the cable splitter is and then get a wireless card for my desktop.

edit: which might not be the worse thing in the world...

Sounds like you are in a predicament. I just looked at the link you posted and its specs say it has a wireless repeater mode. So it looks like you may be able to get another router just like that one and set it up in repeater mode and put it directly below your room and see if that gets you better signal.
