Explorer going nuts

Explorer is going nuts! I don't mean Internet explorer, but windows explorer. In Windows XP I open windows explorer to try to create a new folder under one particular folder. It crashes. I can create new folders elsewhere, but if I try to copy anything to or from that folder, or to create a new folder there, it crashes! This folder is my work folder, the most important one! I can open files without issue.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and what I can do to fix it?

could be anything try a virus scan but if your not to good with computers just reinstall

NO WAIT I got it get an Elephant it will eat the nuts

I wish it were simple to reinstall windows! I would lose all my updates. In the past when I was running Windows 98 I'd just reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything when the pc started to slow down, now it's not so simple.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Have you tried checking your system files ?
type in the "Run" box sfc /scannow, note the space after sfc.

Maybe you have a corrupt file within that folder, try copying what you can out of it into a temporary folder, say on the desktop. Then delete the problem one completely and move your files back in.

Thanks for the reply. I ran the scan and the message came up that files required for windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL cache > insert windows CD ... will have to try that later when I have time to do it ...
