Ext. HDD Problem

I got a new external enclosure for a 40GB that I had laying around. I plugged it in and everything. It powers up fine. The HDD spins. but my computer isn't recognizing the external hard drive at all.

I have an external hard drive and it requires me to actually plug it into two usb ports to work properly, one for power one for data. What you could start off by doing is go under device manager and see if there is an unknown device that your computer doesn't have drivers for. If there is then you probably need to find the drivers for it.

Go to 'Control Panel' and open 'Add Hardware' then follow the wizard, see if it finds it then.
I see how it is, trying to avoid me?
