Extend the life of an old Intel

Yup. Hopefully it will be able to play Tf2, Company of heroes, and the like at relatively high settings, at least for a couple of months until I can get the money for a 150-200 card or so.

EDIT: Thanks for the help. Will most likely follow through with this if nothing is wrong with it. Going to bed for the night. Ill check up on this in the morn.

YOu're welcome!

TF2 is much more CPU intensive, so my bet is you'll smash it. The moment you put a descent GPU in though, you will get great FPS.

What resolution do you play at?

I would go with this board, its only 10 bucks more because of free shipping.

And the memory is deactivated. Go with this.

or for 2 bucks more

Of course could go a different direction. With AMD
AM3+ socket for Zambezi later. Plus it has 4290 onboard.

And a Phenom II 955

Comes up to 40 bucks cheaper.

I decided to go with intel, I would rather get quality and know that the thing is going to work,

The other mobo looked good, but I can always replace the mobo later if really necessary, so I went with the one recommended by fella.

Looking forward to the i5, and I am starting to save up for a good GPU

Good, sounds like a plan. The other benefit with intel is you can always get a i7 and wack in there, which will toast any AMD product at the moment. Also don't forget the Windows you need - and post back telling us how you go.
