Hi, I have bought a external hard disk set (1x hitachi 2.5" 40GB HDD, 1x hdd case and usb cable).

I have formatted the hdd to NTFS

I am using Window ME and when I connected the ext hdd to the pc..."MY COMPUTER" did not show the ext hdd drive???

I took the ext hdd to my friend's pc for testing (he is using win xp)...when the hdd is connected the new hdd drive letter show in "MY COMPUTER" straight away. I had copy and delete file in the ext hdd and everything is ok.

So is that the window me problem or what???

I open the device manager (in my window me) and i CAN found the ext hdd is there ...so what might be the problems please!!! It is urgent...many thanks

For the first option...i doubt it as well...as i thought Windows ME should not have to install driver for external HDD. Please correct me if i am wrong!!

For the second option...what do you mean by "hidden in my computer"? Could you please explain in more details

Your problem is that you formatted the drive to NTFS. Windows ME can only read FAT file systems. The reason your friend on XP can read it is because XP can read both FAT and NTFS drives.

Format the drive to FAT32 and you should be able to use it in ME.

Hey, would it be the external hdd file structure and jumper setting problem....

my friend format the hdd to NTFS mode in his computer (under disk management in win xp)...but i found that my Window ME only support FAT32.

also, i have not set master or slave to my external hdd....i just did not put anything in the jumper as the box set didn't include. would that be the problem cause?
