I was downloading files to an external drive which has always been known as “J” drive. For some unknown reason the external drive has changed its identity to “I” drive. Now when I download to this “new” I drive I get error message. I tried changing the drive to download to to I, but only new ones will go there. The old ones keep saying there is an error.

What happened and how do I fix this? Thank you in advance to all who help.

Can you access your external drive at all? You can always change drive letters by using disk management.

okay, I can most likely tell you why it changed its letter. That is because another drive was removed. Its like right now I have C(2000) , D(XP) , E (Data), F(DVD-RW), G (Camera memory card), and F (Flashkey). If I were to take out my memory card, the flashkey would stay F until the next reboot then it would assume the G designation.

as for the error, can you provide the exact error that you are getting?
