External drive lost!

I bought an Samsung 160gb hard drive, and an Qtec external usb case for my laptop.

I started to install it like instructed, and everything was fine until it was time to format the disk. My laptop hanged up, and after that I haven't been able to find the disk. I can see both the hd and the case in the device manager, but I can't see the (logical?)drive in the disk manager(don't know the english name),where you should be able to format the disk. If I try to search it from the disk manager, my computer hangs up.

I've tried to remove the devices and start the installation again, but it didn't help. Last night I installed the drive without the usb case on my desktop computer and it worked just fine, so I formatted it to use NTFS.

Sorry, my written english is not that good, hope someone understands what I'm trying to say.

Thanks in advance,

JM

i guessing there is not data on there you need to save sence your formating it. I would use a windows disk or fdisk to repartion it. It sounds like it is unpartioned.

No, there's no data on it, I bought it just two days ago. I've tried with the xp cd, but the problem is that i can't boot the machine if the external device is connected to it. And if i try to connect it when the computer is starting up, it hangs up at some phase. I can't start nor shut down the computer with the device connected..

If it would be unpartitioned, shouldn't I still be able to see the drive in the disk management?

Problem solved :)

The case was actually broken, I took it back today to the store where I bought it from, and they gave me a new one. This one started to work immediately.

Still, it's strange, that the device worked on my desktop but not on the laptop?
