External Hard drive error

Hello everybody I have a western digital external firewire hard drive. I was setting up windows on someone else's computer and I had the hard drive connected. I accidentally deleted the partition on the external hard drive. I tried to fix it by creating a new partition but i probably messed it up. I never formatted the drive. Is there any way to save the data on the drive?

you want to recover the data on the partition you deleted?
or just format the disk again and setup the partitions the way you like?

You can never totally delete anything on the hardrive. Unless of course you put a magnet up to it, melt it down, shotgun, flamethrower, shock it, throw it at a wall (hard), throw a baby bird at it (hard), run over it with a car, feed it to a vulture (strong stomach acid), and anything else you might think of that is very destructive.

false, james.
You can totally delete everything on a computer if you delete the partition. You can do that with many programs, one of them being Partition Magic. The disk space previously used by the deleted partition will be unallocated, but you can any time create a new partition.

We can also use a File Shredder. And yeah, as Patrick has already suggested, Ontrack is one of the best file retrievers.
