This device cannot start. (Code 10)

this is what it says on the driver page

i have tried to uninstal and install agian but it keeps giving me this message


any ideas?

What brand is the external hardisk and what os do you use?

my os is vista and i am using the hd out of my old laptop(xp) in a rocketfish enclosure

Click on Start
Right Click on My Computer, click on Properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Click the Device Manager button
Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section
Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time
Restart the computer, and allow the computer to reinstall the USB controllers
Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved

didnt work

i even tried under properties to update driver and it says driver is up to date

when i first plug it in is seems to be fine under device manager but after a minute or 2 it gives that error

I have seen that XP SP2 has troubles with USB 2.0.

yes, i can hear it turnin for a little bit then it stops and the light on the enclosure shuts off as well

It could be that it's not getting enough power, you could try a USB Y cable to get power from two USB ports rather than just one.
