Hey guys, I know this could be dumb question. But still. Arguing with my girl about this.

She's using G4 which is running in MacOs. I'm using Compaq running in XP.

She had an external hard drive for her Mac. Lately her external hard drive(usb port) unable to read on her computer. And same thing happened when I tried it on my Compaq. I just wanted to know wether external harddrive need any driver to run ? Both in MacOs and Xp.

Thanks for help

It will probably come with a cd with the drive on it if it needs one. I'm pretty sure every external device needs a driver but im no expert so....

I guess so..was arguing with my gf about this. She claimed that no driver's needed and I say yes. Anyway, previously she can use it with no problem.
Could be the cable faulty or usb port faulty either.

No idea yet.

I didnt need drivers for my external. I just plugged it in, WIndows noticed it, and everything worked. I would just get the drivers to be safe.

well I had this memory card reader that needed a driver for anything other than windows XP so I guess it depends on what your using it for and what notices it without any cd.

for XP OS I guess it contained most of the driver we need already. I'm in laser printer business, I can install most of the printer for my clients on XP pro without any CDs. Unless those hi-end or latest model printers.

Thanks all
