Hello i have got a 465 gb external hard drive and have put action, horror and comedy movies etc onto it therefore taking the free space up to 451 gb,
As im downloading i realise the movies is taking space from my local disk but why is it doing that if im not downloading to that drive and only downloading to the external hard drive??

Are you sure you're not downloading them to your local disk, then copying (dragging and dropping) them into the external hard drive?

no when the save as comes up i download straight to the external drive but i can still see space bring taken out of the local disk.

Internet explorer saves to a temp file on the primary drive then copies the file once the download has completed.

Other browsers can download directly to the drive (like Firefox). I think you can configure IE to as well if you set your temp directory to the external drive but I can't find if this is right or not.

I think the solution is don't use IE or cleanup all your temp files after downloading with CCleaner or microsofts own disk cleanup utility.
