External hard drive re-named itself...

I have a Seagate FreeAgent 111GB USB external hard drive.
Usually when it's connected to my laptop, it appears as FreeAgent Drive (D) in My Computer.
However yesterday I took it out, and plugged it back in this morning.
Now it shows up as FreeAgent Drive (H).
This doesn't seem like a major problem, but it has caused chaos in my iTunes...a number of songs are stored on my external hard drive and loaded into my iTunes. So because the songs were loaded from the external hard drive D, they now can't be located because it has changed to F.
I could click on every individual song and re-locate the file from the FreeAgent Drive H, as opposed to D. But there are hundreds, if not thousands...it'll take forever.
I thought it was because I had possibly connected it into a different USB port. But it stays as drive H no matter which one it connects to.
Is there any way I can change the letter from H back to D?
Help is much appreciated, thanks in advance! :)

I had the same problem with my misc. I have a zune and my external HD renamed its self from F:\ to G:\. All i did was re-drag all my music into the zune player and that worked fine. All the music data was there. I think you can rename it if you go into the device manager. Hope this helps.

yea, its fairly easy to change back, the naming is not important as programmes dont look for the name, thats there to help you. The drive letter however is more important as programmes look for the drive letter in the path (e.g. C:\\WINDOWS).

To reallocate the drive letter right click on 'My Computer' and click 'Manage'. Then go to 'Disk Management'. Then right click on the drive and click 'Change Drive Letters and Paths', 'Change', etc.

Hope this helps.
