Well it looks like I'm going to need to do a fresh install and I've got some stuff I need to save. I was browsing bestbuy.com and saw they have networked external hd... I didnt really see anywhere that said if they will or wont work wirelessly? and also what would you recommend. I saw some that were like 8tb and if I saved everything from now until I was 80 wouldn't need that much space :D. probably in the 1tb range. what do you have and how do you like it?

I was in your shoes.....I ended up not using it because how slow USB 2.0 transfers are.
Considering you have a I7 system your board should have a lot of free sata ports id just buy a 1TB hdd internal....put all your stuff on it then unplug it when your not using it (aka power off)

Keeps your data safe and you will spend a lot less and get better transfer speeds then buying externals.

I actually took a "firewire" adapter that came with my board (hooks in the back of case) and turned it into a front panel fast swap setup for $2 because I am cheap and proud of it :P It works fantastically fyi.

As long as you have a wireless network, the NAS will be accessible just as any other computer would be (IE wired or wireless). I actually have a Synology DS109j. Amazon sells the newer version, 110j, now for $150. In terms of network storage, these are about as good as they get.

They have an online demo over at their website. I suggest you check it out. These things are loaded with cool features. Web server with PHP and SQL, mail server, media streaming, print server, etc..
