external HD won't finish installing

I have a USB external HD that works fine but needed an enclosure that had firewire as well. So I bought an enclosure that has both and swapped my HD over. Now, when I plug the drive in it never finishes installing, the last screen I see is the new disk message in the corner (I can't remember the wording now) I've tried the drive on Master, slave, and cable select with no luck. The drive also seems to lock the computer up when shutting down/booting and doing such tasks as "safely remove hardware. Any ideas?


The HD is a Hitachi Deskstar 250gig, the enclosure is a bytecc.

Try disabling the firewall. That might be the problem. Too sensitive probably

My firewall has already been disabled, should the jumper be on master whenever you use a external drive?

I believe most enclosures need the drive set to master, or at least cable select.

It has to be something wrong with the drive because I have tried it on 3 different computers. Also, the drive has the options of 16 heads, 15 heads, 32gb clip, and auto-spin disable. Should I only have to use 16 heads?
