External HDD backup problem...

For some reason, when I try to copy and paste my windows, program files, or any other folders from my dedicated internal drive to my external HDD there is a "cannot copy" window that pops up and tells me that one file can not be copied. This stops the whole process. What can I do to get around this? My external is in Fat32 and my internal is NTFS, does that make a difference??

Don't copy that file? There are many important system files that you cannot touch, no matter what you try. The only way to get around that would be to go into DOS without being in Windows, but I don't suggest doing so. Your computer is telling you that the file shouldn't be copied, and you should listen to it.

Yes I can copy some files... the ones that dont copy are a language file in program files and a _default file in windows.

Since this is the case, how do I make a windows backup file? I lost my system restore disk.

I don't see a problem copying the file, you just copy it, you don't delete it, know what I mean?

Hey. Windows is Windows, if you know what I mean. If it doesn't want the file copied, then it won't let you copy it. Don't try to argue with Windows, just do what it says. :D:P

There are some modifications that let you do everything you want with your system files etc. (copy, delete etc.), I think it has to do something with the registry, after you edit your registry you don't get those annoying messages anymore.
